Why Not Design Your Own Luxury Yacht?
There are many ways in which you can announce to the world your love of luxury. Your house may double as an elegant, secluded paradise with a pool and a gorgeous garden. You may go on holidays in the south of France, the Caribbean, or Hawaii. It could be a smooth, flash vehicle. Your friends will surely know that you love the lap of luxury. But there’s one thing that beats all other signs. And that is the yacht.
Owning a luxury yacht is the ultimate in your display of decadence. There’s a good reason that the most wealthy film characters in history are rarely seen too far from their yacht! But if you really want to impress, then how about owning a yacht that you can say was designed by you?
Fancy designing your own yacht? Here’s a quick guide to some of the things you need to keep in mind.
The size of the yacht
The size of your yacht is going to determine pretty much everything else. It will determine the items and people you can have onboard. It will determine the cost of the materials that will be used to build it. It will also affect how long you have to wait from conception to sailing!
One of the obvious factors to consider is that a bigger yacht means you can hold more guests. But don’t dismiss the idea of something a little smaller. Some people feel more comfortable with less open space. The size is up to you, so think carefully about what would make you most comfortable!
What waters will you be sailing it on?
It’s important to know the usual temperament of the waters upon which you’ll be sailing this yacht. This will usually be directly connected to the weather, of course. If the area you live in is prone to frequent storms, then you’ll need to design accordingly!
Even if you live in a calm area, your yacht needs to be sturdy. It will also require all of the safety measures you’d want in a storm. Don’t neglect this area just because you live in a place with 360 days of calm seas a year!
The cabins
If you’re planning on catching some shut-eye while you’re out on the seas, then you’ll need at least one cabin! And, of course, you’ll probably want to extend that luxury to any guests you’ll have onboard. As you may know, there are two types of cabins on your typical yacht. There’s the master cabin, which the captain of the ship will be staying in. Presumably, the captain of the ship is you! Then there are the guest cabins. I’ll assume I don’t need to explain who will be staying in those!
The master cabin is often bigger than the guest cabins. Whether or not you want a design like that depends on how envious you’d like your guests to feel, I suppose! Some may feel more comfortable making the master cabins the same size as the guest cabins. Just remember that you need to fit in more guest cabins than master cabins! Of course, if you plan on simply sailing out by yourself, then you could consider not bothering with guest cabins at all.
The comforts and the fun stuff
The true sign of the luxuriousness of a yacht is what items you have onboard. Typically, people will consider a yacht that feels like a mansion to be a truly luxurious one. It should feel as close to a home as it possibly can when you step inside it. For many people, that means stuffing it with elegant furniture and amazing gadgets.
When it comes to furniture, you should look into items that are specifically designed to furnish a yacht. The design needs tend to be different when compared to home furniture, as they often need to curve in certain ways or be certain heights. You can also look into getting an amazing television. Why go for anything lower than an ultra-HD one? You’re not guaranteed amazing reception out there on the water, but you can still use it for films or games. And why not look into gadgets that are even more mind-blowing? If you happen to have a spare $5.5 million, you could get the Triton 6600/2. It’s a personal submarine that allows you to explore more than a mile beneath surface level.
Considering the details
When you’re choosing the elegant materials you’ll be using the build the yacht, you need to consider many things. People thinking about luxury on a yacht will spend most of their time considering all of the things above in this article. But you need to be putting thought into the entirety of the yacht.
That means making sure your elegant design extends to everything that you or your guests will touch. That means the door handles. It means the railings along the circumference of the yacht. It includes the steering wheel and the knobs at the controls. Don’t be afraid to get hung up on the little things! After all, how often are you going to be designing your own luxury yacht?
Keeping it protected
Keeping your yacht safe must be one of your top priorities. After all, this is a big investment of time and money you’re making here! You need to put a lot of focus on the safety measures you’ll be taking. As you’re probably going to be focussing on the aesthetics, I’d recommend getting a little help. Speak to someone who is an expert of the seas and will know what safety equipment you need onboard.
You’ll also need insurance! Do not forget the insurance! Just because you’ve designed it yourself, it doesn’t mean you’re exempt from insurance plans. You’ll want to locate an insurance company that will cover big yachts as well as other boats. Insurance 4 Boats are an example.
Getting inspiration
If you get stuck at any point in the design process, you can look for inspiration. What better inspiration could you get than from the most luxurious yachts in the world? Research the most expensive yachts in existence and you’re sure to find some inspiring material.
You should also not be afraid to get some assistance if you need it. While you know your own tastes better than anyone, you might want to consider hiring an interior designer. Someone with experience in designing the interior of a yacht may well surprise you with some stunning ideas.
